Cory Meals is an up-and-coming drill designer whose work has been performed across the United States. Working with renowned drill designer Mitch Rogers, Cory has created successful visual productions for bands of all sizes, types, and ability levels.
Cory began his career in the pageantry arts as a member of The Lake Erie Regiment (94-96), graduating to membership in The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps (97-01). Following his age-out, he returned to The Cavaliers as a member of the brass instructional team (02-06) and later joined the brass instructional team of The Santa Clara Vanguard (2011). He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL. While at there, he worked on both the visual and musical staffs of several Chicago-area marching bands including: Lake Park High School (2000), and Wheaton-Warrenville South High School (1998-2001).
He is currently a graduate conducting fellow studying under Mr. David Bertman at the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston in Houston, TX. There he serves as a graduate teaching assistant with responsibilities including assistance with the 250+ member Spirit of Houston Marching Band, Cougar Brass, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band. Most recently, he served as the Director of Music and Director of Bands for Waller Independent School District, just northwest of Houston, TX. Under his direction the band program consistently earned Superior ratings in marching and concert contests, as well as advancement to the UIL 4A Texas State Marching Contest each year eligible (2007, 2009).
Meals is an active adjudicator and clinician in both the United States and Canada. His professional affiliations include Texas Music Educator's Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is also currently a visual designer for VisAudio Designs. He currently lives in Houston, Texas with his wife Sarah.
